The Quebec Police Awards gala was created in 1999 by a group of police officers who were committed to the profession of policing. In launching the gala, they believed in the public recognition of the work carried out by some 15,000 fellow police officers at the federal, provincial and municipal levels throughout Quebec. Each year’s gala is culminated with the presentation of a crystal trophy, given to each recipient, and thereby known as heroes in the shadow.

The gala is an annual event filled with pomp and ceremony, featuring a formal lunch attended by several hundred representatives from the province’s law enforcement, political and business communities. The gala is held each November in the elegant main ballroom of the Marriott Château Champlain Hotel in downtown Montreal.

Recipients who each year have been selected among a list of worthy candidates nominated by their peers are invited to attend the Quebec Police Awards gala where their work is recognized for its excellence. Over the past 15 years nearly 450 recipients have been honoured before an audience comprised of political leaders and public security officials.
